Northeast Washington Forestry Coalition and the Colville NF Partner to Enhance Access for Disabled Hunters
Earlier this year, the Northeast Washington Forestry Coalition, in partnership with the Forest Service and Stevens County, received a grant from the National Forest Foundation to enhance and expand disabled hunter access on the Colville National Forest. Working collaboratively with the Forest Service, the Coalition is using the grant funds to help the Colville National Forest get feedback from disabled hunters on proposed new routes, conduct field work to clear brush and make the routes more passable, and to promote them to disabled hunters throughout the state and beyond. In the future, the Colville National Forest will seek to combine disabled hunter access routes with existing or new vegetation management projects such as wildlife habitat improvement, pre-commercial thinning, and prescribed fire, so that objectives of these projects are also addressed.
The National Forest Foundation, chartered by Congress, engages America in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million acre National Forest System, and accepts and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests.
