Community Meeting for Fire District 7:

Fire Planning Begins

Will your home survive a wildfire? Is your home and property in need of defensible spacethinning? Can a fire engine get to your home property and turn around? Is there water access near your home for fire fighting? Do you live next to the forest? These and other questions will be answered at a very important meeting in and around the Arden, Colville and surrounding area.

The neighborhood meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2006 . A 6pm meeting will be held at the Arden Fire Training Center. All residents living in or near Fire District 7 should attend. If you are not sure what fire District you are in you can refer to your property tax statement. The meeting is FREE.

The intent of the meetings is to gather public input towards creating a county-wide fire management plan. Once completed, the Stevens Countywide Fire Plan private home owners may be able to receive funding to create the safety zone around their homes and outbuildings.

The Fires Districts, Forest Service and Department of Natural Resources encourage you to attend the meetings in your area. There will be other meetings throughout the County with notices to be posted in the paper.

This Fire Plan effort is funded by the National Forest Foundation and by contributions from: Ponderay Newsprint, Conservation Northwest, Vaagen Brothers Lumber, and 49 Degrees North. The planning process is a multi-agency, public and private jurisdictional effort that includes the Stevens County, the Northeast Washington Forestry Coalition, The Colville National Forest, Washington Department of Natural Resources, The Stevens County Conservation District and the local Fire Districts and Departments.
